Movie: Who Killed The Electric Car?, Sony Pictures Classics, 2006
I would have to say that this is one of my favourite movies! I don't believe most people have ever heard of the EV1 - Saturn's (owned by GM) Electric Vehicle, or the fact that these cars were available in 1996. Now, this wasn't the first electric car to hit the roads. In the 1830's, a Scottish inventor by the name of Robert Anderson developed an electric carriage with non-rechargeable batteries. In 1891, William Morrison built the first electric automobile (with a rechargeable battery) in the United States and produced them commercially until 1896. Of course we all know that in 1908, Henry Ford came up with the gas powered automobile, but the decline of the electric vehicle really began in the 1920's when society had a longing to travel further & the need for more horsepower.
Growing Healthy, Organic Food at the Corner Garden
The Corner Garden is a Community Garden at the corner of Deacon and Paul Martin Drive, tucked into the corner of the Marguerite Centre’s expansive property. Vegetables were started in March 2007, under lights using heritage seed, and lovingly tended by volunteers. With support from Marguerite Centre, a cold frame was constructed, city compost and tools were purchased, a tiller rented and bit by bit the garden took shape. With the help of staff, pine needles, grass clippings and leaves were gathered up from around the property and delivered to the edge of the garden. A gazebo was built to offer shade to the participants and a shed built to keep the tools out of the weather. A second site was established at one of the building’s south facing walls for wind protection and the brick’s warmth. This is home for varieties of tomatoes and herbs.

Movie: Wall-E, Disney & Pixar, 2008
Sometimes coming up with environmental films for EcoFilm night is hard. Although being "green" is growing more popular, it's still not a favourite theme for new movies so I was a bit surprised when I saw the first previews for Wall-E - an ecological children's movie.
Synopsis: This computer animated film is about a robot named Wall-E who is designed to pick up trash on Earth as the humans wait for the planet to become suitable once again. Wall-E seems to be the only robot left and a new robot, EVE, is sent to check the progress. Wall-E "falls in love" with EVE and follows her to outer space where they change the fate of humanity.
